Vakhtang Matchavariani – Georgian Composer, Conductor, Pianist. Son of prominent Georgian composer, Alexi Matchavariani.

BIOGRAPHICAL DATA
1973 – Graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory named after Vano Sarajishvili, majoring in piano (class of Emil Gurevich);
1977 – Graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory named after Vano Sarajishvili, faculty of conducting (Odyssey Dimitriadis class);
1987 – 1991 – Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of the Georgian Music Society;
1987 – 1990 – The chief conductor of the Tbilisi State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after Zakaria Paliashvili;
Since 1991 – P. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory – assistant internship course under the guidance of Gennady Rozhdestvensky;
1990 – Created the Soviet Festival Orchestra (later the Moscow Festival Orchestra);
In the same period, he is the assistant of the artistic director and chief conductor of the Vienna Opera, Lorin Maazel;
Since 1996 – GMD and chief conductor of the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra named after Evgeni Mikeladze;
Since 1998 – Artistic director of the State Symphony Orchestra of Georgia;
1998 – Artistic director of the opera music festival “Bravo” founded by Paata Burchuladze;
2000 – 2008 – GMD of the Great Symphony Orchestra of the Russian Federation “Millennium”;
Since 2011 – Regularly collaborates with the Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra;
Until now – the Main Guest Conductor of the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after Zakaria Paliashvili;
Vakhtang Matchavariani’s cooperation is connected with more than 80 high–ranking symphony orchestras and more than 25 opera theaters worldwide. Among them: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestras of France and Belgium, Germany’s leading symphony and radio symphony orchestras, the Stuttgart State Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Maria Theater Orchestra, the USSR Radio and Great Television Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, USSR State Symphony Orchestra, USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra…
